Ukraine lacks a policy of memorial propaganda, says chief researcher at the Department of Information Society Research and Information Strategies at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Nikolai Ozhevan. He stated this at the round table “History on the front of the information war.”

“Let's centralize the policy of memorial propaganda. We cannot allow what is happening in every city and village of the country. For example, in Sevastopol at one time they erected a monument to Mother Catherine. The same monument was erected by some local businessman in Odessa on the site of the monument to the Potemkin soldiers.

My fellow countryman Arseniy Yatsenyuk erected a monument to Emperor Franz Joseph in Chernivtsi with his own money. Franz Joseph is almost a national hero in Chernivtsi, because it is believed that Bukovina flourished under him. And the Germanization of all inscriptions in Chernivtsi has reached absurdity. Every restaurant and every cafe in the center has some kind of German or Austrian sign, and the same goes for the menu.

Similarly, in Uzhgorod, there are only Hungarian signs, at every step you can read where which king watered his horse. There is nothing like that about Ukraine. I'm not even talking about our Kyiv, where we still have not been able to dismantle everything anti-national, anti-Ukrainian. You leave the Arsenalnaya metro station and a machine gun is looking at you. What kind of machine gun is this, who did it belong to - a Ukrainian patriot or vice versa? A little further forward - thank God, they renamed the street into Ivan Mazepa Street - we reach the square where the Eternal Flame is a monument to the Bolshevik Ivanov, on the left is little Pushkin, even further - several signs about various underground Bolsheviks who at one time blessed Kyiv with their presence.

They say there is no money, something else is missing. Lacks intelligence. If we want to feel confident on this earth, then money must be found for monuments and for the dismantling of existing monuments.

This issue must be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration so that it is legalized. At this stage of development of Ukrainian statehood, it is too early to leave this to local councils; this should be a centralized state policy.”
