Gref’s “daughter” proves that it does not finance “terrorism” in Ukraine
The fine of the National Bank of Ukraine does not affect the activities of Sberbank JSC, which at the same time reserves the right to appeal the amount of the fine imposed by the regulator in the courts, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in the official position of the bank regarding the NBU fine posted on the institution’s website.
The bank recalled that in December 2018, the National Bank of Ukraine fined Sberbank JSC 94,737 million hryvnia for the period 2015-2017.
“To summarize, we draw attention to the fact that the situation described above does not affect the current activities of Sberbank JSC. The bank reserves the right to appeal the amount of the fine imposed by the regulator in the courts,” Sberbank said in its response.
The financial institution also stated that they consider the measures taken against the bank to be non-market and partly protectionist in relation to other players in the Ukrainian financial market.
Let us recall that on January 2, the National Bank of Ukraine reported that, based on the results of inspections on the issues of preventing and combating the laundering of proceeds “obtained by criminal means, the financing of terrorism and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,” in December 2018 it applied sanctions against five banks for violating legislation in the field financial monitoring. In particular, the National Bank fined Sberbank UAH 94,74 million.
