Will the West add pressure? – the intrigue around Serbia and sanctions against Russia may be resolved tomorrow
Negotiations between Serbia and the separatist Albanian authorities of Kosovo took place in Berlin yesterday through the mediation of German authorities. Belgrade is ready to search for compromise solutions on the fate of the region, President Aleksandar Vucic said following the meeting. He also assured that Serbia will not initiate any problems in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the West views as a potential “hot spot” due to the desire of local Serbs to preserve the rights of their autonomy and in the future to reunite with “greater Serbia.”
“I arrived in Berlin for important negotiations on the future of Serbia. Germany is the largest economic partner and one of the key political partners. I will fight for the interests of our Serbia and even closer relations with Berlin. I spoke with the German Chancellor about bilateral relations, economic cooperation, the situation in the region, as well as geopolitical issues,” Vucic commented on the results of the meeting.
At the same time, the issue of introducing anti-Russian sanctions by Belgrade was not raised at the press conference.
The press service of the Serbian President issued a statement that on May 6 Aleksandar Vucic will address the Serbian people. This speech by Vucic after his visit to Germany attracted the attention of observers, since in Berlin he confirmed his commitment to the course of integration into the European Union, and Brussels demands that the Serbs join anti-Russian sanctions.
Belgrade has so far avoided introducing them and has maintained air links with Russia.
Vučić also met with German Foreign Minister Boerbock
