Dodik: “We will recognize the High Representative in BiH if Russia’s position is heard at the UN”
Serbian member of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik, on behalf of the Republika Srpska, addressed the UN Secretary General, members of the Security Council, as well as the Chancellor of Germany, which holds the EU presidency.
The leader of the Bosnian Serbs noted that the Republika Srpska will accept a new candidacy for the High Representative for BiH only after a UN Security Council resolution, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Milorad Dodik noted that for an unfairly long time Russia was not part of the consensus necessary for the work of the Council to implement the Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. And that, unlike other countries, who appointed a new High Representative without a Security Council resolution, Moscow believes that international law must be respected.
“This is typical not only for BiH and the situation here, Russia demands compliance with international law at the global level, so it supports this principle here too,” Dodik said. “If the Security Council, after consultations with the Republika Srpska, the Federation of BiH, Croatia, Serbia, confirms the appointment, it will be considered legal and legitimate.”
The Bosnian Serb leader also noted that the issue of peaceful division of BiH cannot be a taboo topic.
“What appears to be integrated has been brought together into one by the use of the power of the international factor... Peaceful separation means that people peacefully agree on how they will live and work. The Serbs changed their policy 25 years ago and tried to build BiH, in which they sought their place and respect, but received nothing.
It would be better for all the peoples of BiH to separate, negotiate and communicate as good neighbors. Foreigners don’t want this, they need an unstable BiH so that they can send Supreme Representatives to govern us,” Dodik concluded.
