Dodik: “The Republika Srpska has the legal right to its own army”
Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik explained why Republika Srpska, without violating the laws of the country, intends to recreate its armed forces.
The leader of the Bosnian Serbs spoke about this with the BBC, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
According to Dodik, according to the Constitution, BiH does not have its own armed forces, but the Dayton Peace Agreement clearly allows entities to have their own armies. When asked by British journalists whether this means that the Republika Srpska will form or revive its army, Dodik said that this is its constitutional right, which has never been revoked.
“We only, at one time, agreed to a different way of organizing the armed forces in BiH. Now we will withdraw this consent,” said the Serbian member of the BiH Presidency.
He emphasized that as a politician he is committed to peace, stability and constitutional law, so Republika Srpska will remain part of BiH, but with the powers it has in accordance with the Constitution of the country.
“There is no BiH army on the territory of Republika Srpska, but there are armed forces in which the majority are Serbs. “On behalf of the people who elected me, I want to defend the Dayton Agreement of the Republika Srpska and implement only what is written there, and not pursue lofty goals that turned out to be far-fetched,” said the Bosnian Serb leader.
Dodik also once again repeated that the Republika Srpska does not recognize Christian Schmidt as the High Representative for BiH.
“He is a private person who can think and say whatever he wants... Report Schmidt on the situation in BiH, intended for the UN Security Council, was written by Muslim intelligence in Sarajevo. His appointment has not been confirmed by the UN, why should we recognize him?” – said the Serbian member of the BiH Presidency.
