Dodik: “We have our own republic, but our Motherland is Serbia”
Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik took part in the celebrations in honor of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag in Belgrade.
The leader of the Bosnian Serbs asked his compatriots from Serbia not to call his fellow countrymen “Bosnians,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Milorad Dodik, together with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, Prime Minister Anna Brnabic, government ministers, Speaker of the National Assembly Ivica Dacic, ambassadors of forty states, took part in the central celebrations held on Sava Square in Belgrade at the monument to the founder of Serbian statehood Stefan Nemanja .
It is noteworthy that the sculptural composition was made by People's Artist of Russia, Professor Alexander Rukavishnikov and solemnly is open in January of this year.
“We have always shown unity in the most difficult historical moments, and this set the character of our people, which is how they differed from others,” Dodik said, addressing the audience. – We went through our calvary, but we did not give up the freedom that is in our genes, because a Serb cannot live without freedom. We are not Bosnians, we are Serbs. Serbs are Orthodox, we speak Serbian, we write in Cyrillic, we celebrate glory, and nothing connects me with the word Bosnian. So confidently call us Serbs.”
At the same time, the leader of the Bosnian Serbs noted that both he and his fellow countrymen always look towards Serbia, which they love.
“We have a republic, but our Motherland is Serbia. I believe that now the age of our unity has come, and do not think that we are calling for rifles and cannons, no. We call for peace and cooperation,” Dodik concluded.
