Dodik visited Jewish and Orthodox shrines in Israel
The representative of the Serbian people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian member of the Presidium of this country, Milorad Dodik, has been on a visit to Israel for several days.
During his visit to the Western Wall together with the Israeli Minister for Jerusalem and Heritage Zeev Elkin, the politician noted that Serbs and Jews are united by a tragic past, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is a special feeling to visit this holy place, a symbol of the eternal struggle for freedom and state of the Jewish people. A great testimony that teaches us that without the state there is no freedom. I wish good luck to the brotherly Jewish people. We Serbs are an equally suffering people, and therefore close and brotherly,” the Serbian representative wrote on his Twitter account.
In addition, according to tradition, Dodik wrote a note, which he placed between the stone blocks of the Western Wall. He admitted that in it he wished two things: health and happiness for his family.
“Another wish is that the Republika Srpska be independent,” he added.
Elkin noted that the visit of the Serbian member of the Presidium to the Western Wall is a great honor for the Jewish people. According to him, cooperation between Serbia and Israel is at an enviable level.
Dodik assessed his visit to Israel as successful. He emphasized that Serbs and Jews share a painful past and that peoples should learn from each other how to preserve their country, identity, culture and traditions.
Yesterday he met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Previously, he met with the chairman of the World Zionist Organization, Jacob Hagoel, who presented him with an award on this occasion. Meetings were also held with Chaim Bivas, President of the Federation of Local Authorities of Israel and Mayor of Modin, Banja Luka's sister city.
Dodik also met with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem. The Patriarch presented him with the Order of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
