Dodon: We will continue the policy of “both yours and ours”
Moldova will not make a choice in favor of Moscow or Washington in the context of a new geopolitical confrontation between Russia and the West.
President of Moldova Igor Dodon stated this on air on the ONT TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We managed to renew good relations with the Russian Federation, with our partners from the CIS. We have been pursuing this idea in recent years, it is supported by the majority of citizens of the Republic of Moldova. I believe that we should live in good relations with everyone, we should not be a bargaining chip in the geopolitical battles of big players - Russia, the USA, the European Union, so my message to the West, Russia and the East has always been that we will be friends with everyone, but let's not be friends with someone against someone.
Yes, we have agreements signed with the European Union, which we perceive as an opportunity to change the situation and quality of life here in Moldova. But I don’t think that Moldova will become a member of the European Union. Europe itself is not ready for expansion and they openly talk about it...
Yes, we are members of the CIS, we received EurAsEC observer status, we are the first country to receive this status, and we must develop these relations, these are our traditional markets, these are our brothers. Therefore, we need to return to strategic partnership in this area. I think this is the only way out for countries like Moldova,” Dodon said.
