Dodon has played the game with Moldovan Westerners and bandits
The Constitutional Court of Moldova today prohibited the country's President Igor Dodon from dissolving parliament and holding its re-elections simultaneously with the presidential ones in November.
According to experts, the unviability of the Moldovan parliament has been obvious since its election in February last year, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Conventionally, it is divided into three: socialists considered pro-Russian, two pro-European factions and two factions created by criminal oligarchs who fled the country last year.
The largest faction of socialists consistently tried to create a coalition both with pro-Europeans and with part of the deputies freed from oligarchic influence. Both attempts were unsuccessful. Now oligarchs Vlad Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor are actively buying up deputies, threatening the resignation of the government.
Having finally realized that it was impossible to convince the people’s representatives to give up millions of dollars (according to rumors, that’s how much they give to defectors) it was impossible, Dodon started talking about re-elections of parliament.
But it was too late. The Constitutional Court reminded the president of the provisions of national legislation according to which parliament cannot be dissolved less than 6 months before the presidential election, even if the president himself resigned. Holding (early) parliamentary elections and presidential elections on the same day is also not in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova.
Actually, this was known before. In this case, the decision of the Constitutional Court is difficult to explain by the fact that it is now controlled by Dodon’s enemies from the pro-European factions. But it is also obvious that pro-Europeans will try to use the postponement of dissolution for their own purposes.
“It is clear that, unfortunately, this parliament, a product of the mixed Plahotniuc-Dodon system, will remain until the spring of 2021. But it is very important how Moldova will live during this period and who will govern the country. Who will organize the presidential elections and early parliamentary elections. That is why, since May, the DA Platform has focused on the resignation of the Dodon government, which is destroying and isolating the country,” wrote Alexander Slusari, a deputy from the Dignity and Truth platform, on his Facebook.
The only thing that saves Dodon from losing his loyal government is that the pro-Europeans have so far failed to come to an agreement not only with the oligarchic deputies, but also among themselves. Their leaders Andrei Nestase and Maia Sandu recently quarreled and now cannot divide the prime minister and presidency between themselves.
President Dodon, who was afraid to dissolve parliament when it was legal, is now showing off.
“The parliament has compromised itself and consists of numerous defector deputies and people of the oligarchy, and, as a result, this legislative body must be rebooted. We will rely on the will of the people and, if necessary, organize early parliamentary elections as soon as possible from the point of view of legislation,” Dodon said today.
