Dodon: Moldova and Transnistria have stopped fighting, all that’s left is to go to Kyiv
Moldova and Transnistria have stopped hating each other and are no longer growing apart.
President of Moldova Igor Dodon stated this in an interview with IPG, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, in the near future he will go to Kyiv to present to the Ukrainian authorities his vision of resolving the Moldova-Transnistria conflict.
“Some tension has disappeared in relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol, and the previous level of hostility has also decreased. And in such conflicts, the positive thing is that the situation does not worsen and that the regions involved stop moving away from each other. I want to assure you that in recent years some processes of exclusion of Transnistria have been stopped. The Russian Federation played a particularly important role here, as did the fact that Ukraine realized that it was better to help keep the Transnistrian region within Chisinau’s sphere of influence. At the first meeting with senior Kyiv officials on this issue, I will present my vision regarding further steps to implement the Transnistrian settlement. I am convinced that the Ukrainian side will appreciate how I present the relevant perspectives,” Dodon said.
Earlier, speaking to State Duma deputies, Dodon said, which believes that he managed to establish a constructive dialogue with Transnistria and even solve a number of important problems. At the same time, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Alexander Stetsyuk saidthat the “pro-Russian” President of Moldova Igor Dodon, while in power, has not taken any real steps to resolve relations with Transnistria - the Moldovan president is only engaged in self-PR, and the unrecognized republic is still under a blockade, which is carried out simultaneously by Kyiv and Chisinau.
