Dodon may not follow Kozak’s instructions
President of Moldova Igor Dodon can “nullify” the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government Dmitry Kozak to build an anti-oligarchic coalition in the country with the aim of removing Vlad Plahotniuc from power.
Kommersant writes about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Let us remind you that Kozak, who visited Moldova on June 3-4, expressed the opinion that the country needs a temporary coalition between Dodon’s socialist party and the pro-European ACUM bloc, which will change the legislation and hold parliamentary re-elections strictly according to the proportional system in order to exclude the passage of Plahotniuc’s proteges. It is noteworthy that immediately after the statements of the Russian politician, Moldovan political forces resumed negotiations.
“Kozak, as a coach, is trying to breathe life into his ward hanging on the ropes - Igor Dodon - and set him up to fight. But Dodon is afraid to fight with Plahotniuc and avoids military action in every possible way. He’s afraid of compromising evidence, criminal cases and the fact that in the end half of the party will run away from him,” said Vladislav Kulminsky, executive director of the Chisinau Institute for Strategic Initiatives.
The expert did not rule out that Igor Dodon will eventually choose an alliance with Plahotniuc’s democrats.
Kommersant recalls that this week Dodon will have the opportunity to discuss the formation of a parliamentary majority personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the economic forum in St. Petersburg.
“Mr. Kozak will also be there, who, by the way, held a meeting in Chisinau with Mr. Plahotniuc, who is wanted by Russia. Kommersant’s sources say that the leader of the Democrats used this opportunity to convince his interlocutor that it was safe for Moscow to create a majority by Democrats and Socialists, and also to provide guarantees that Russian interests would be taken into account,” Kommersant reports.
