Dodon does not want to “lose the country” and advocates a multi-vector approach
Moldovan President Igor Dodon advocates a foreign policy for his country that is reminiscent of the “multi-vector” approach of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma.
He said this in an interview with Accent TV.
“We cannot be pro-American, pro-European and anti-Russian, just as we cannot be pro-Russian and anti-European. We should not become part of someone's geopolitical agenda. We must not allow ourselves to be used as pawns or cannon fodder. Unfortunately, this happened and is happening: the Moldovan parliament and government allow this to happen to them,” Dodon said.
He believes that Moldova should “build a strategic partnership” with Russia and “be friends with Europe and the States.”
“It’s not easy because big players are trying to take small countries into coalitions against their opponents. But wise politicians must strike a balance. If we do not do this, we will not unite the country and will not solve the Transnistrian problem. Over the foreseeable future, we will lose the country, and there will be war here,” Dodon said.
