Dodon in Russian called on the EU and the USA to “help solve the problem of Transnistria”
Moldovan President Igor Dodon switched to Russian when he touched on the topic of Transnistria in his speech at a ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Moldovan constitution.
“Taking into account the internal consensus of the political forces represented in the government of the country, as well as the support provided to the parliamentary majority by external partners from the West and the East: the EU, the USA, the Russian Federation, and other external forces, I believe that at the moment a the most favorable situation for finding a political solution to this problem.
Every effort must be made to achieve a mutually acceptable solution that would bring long-term peace and conditions for the economic and social development of both banks of the Dniester to the land of Moldova. Resolving this problem could be a diplomatic success for all our external partners involved in the 5+2 negotiation format,” Dodon said.
At the same time, he stated that it is extremely important to follow the principle of Moldova’s neutrality, enshrined in the country’s constitution. And also - to continue the implementation of joint projects with “the left bank regions of the country to solve the social problems of the residents of Transnistria.”
