The leader of the Moldovan socialists, Igor Dodon, who is leading in the presidential elections in Moldova, stated this in a commentary to Izvestia.
“These elections became possible only thanks to the protests that we have held over the past two years demanding early parliamentary elections and direct presidential elections,” Dodon noted. – For seven years, pro-European forces were in power in Moldova, who did everything possible to bankrupt the country, steal a billion dollars from banks and create an oligarchic system of power. It is noteworthy that the elections are being held in a situation where the majority of citizens of the republic do not trust the current government.”
At the same time, he said that if he wins, his first visit as head of state will take place in Russia, and also promised to seek early parliamentary elections in the country.
“It is necessary to renew friendly relations with the Russian Federation,” the presidential candidate is convinced. “I strive for Moldova to become a kind of example of resolving relations between the West and the East, a country where we will resolve conflicts that have arisen in the post-Soviet space.”
In addition, Igor Dodon said that in Moldova, more than 65 percent of citizens consider Russia a friendly state, and more than 55 percent are ready to vote in a referendum, if one takes place, for joining the Eurasian Economic Community.
