“It would be important that we meet. I understand that we have different visions. They talk about independence or joining Russia. We have our own vision. I believe that we have a single country, and Pridnestrovie will be part of the Republic of Moldova. But different views will not prevent us from meeting with the new leader of the region. It won't be easy, but it needs to be done. No one in our country has done this. I think this is one of the main tasks for me as president,” Dodon said.
He believes that it will be possible to unite Moldova and Transnistria within the next three years.
“I have not yet had negotiations with leaders in the 5+2 format, but intuitively I feel that we have two to three years – a window of opportunity to solve this problem. We have presidential elections, in Russia there is openness to resolving this issue, in the USA the president is a pragmatist, in Europe the situation is changing. If we do not use this period, we will miss this chance by 15-20 years,” Dodon said.
