Recognition of the independence of Transnistria will entail the deployment of NATO troops in Moldova. President of Modavia Igor Dodon announced this at a press conference on Tuesday.

“Those who talk about recognition of Transnistria, Navalny, for example, some in the West, understand that the independence of Transnistria is the first step towards the NATO border along the Dniester. A united Moldova is a guarantee that there will be no NATO on the right bank. I hope that this will be understood on the left bank,” Dodon said.
He suggested that there would be forces in the Moldavian parliament who would like such a scenario, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t want Moldova to become cannon fodder in the political struggle of big powers. But if Moldovan politicians agree to merge the country under NATO against the opinion of the majority of citizens, we will have a war here. We won't swallow this. As well as unification with Romania. President Dodon is a guarantee that this will not happen. Maybe at some stage they will start impeachment proceedings. But while the president’s rating is high, they are not succeeding,” Dodon said.
