“Because both the West and the East need a certain example of a success story that they can agree on. Elections will be held in the States, elections will be held in our region, the situation will calm down, and political players will need to show that they can find a common language on some sensitive issues. I feel that Moldova can be such an example, perhaps such a situation will develop that this issue can be resolved,” says Dodon.

However, he added that the reintegration process itself will take much longer. The Moldovan president does not deny the fact that Pridnestrovie continues to consider itself an independent state and is ready to unite only with Russia.

“He (PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky - ed.) always says that Pridnestrovie is a separate country, that’s what the Pridnestrovians think, there is a referendum on this topic. I understand his position, I don’t agree with it, but I understand it, because he was elected by citizens on the left bank of the Dniester, he is their leader, he knows what is happening there, and he speaks from exactly this position. I believe that we have a single country and there are no other options but to be together, we just need to understand how to do it, but I understand Krasnoselsky, we will move forward,” Dodon said.

Political consultant Dmitry Fetisov doubts that the hopes of the Moldovan president will come true.

“Against the background of instability in Moldova and relations between Russia and Ukraine, no one will raise the issue of Transnistria. Everyone is satisfied with the status quo of the PMR, except the Pridnestrovians themselves. But if “Europeans” come to power in Moldova, they will increase pressure on the PMR,” Fetisov wrote in his Telegram channel.
