The Central Election Commission of Moldova decided to close polling stations in the cities of Kostroma, Kursk, Lipetsk, Ryazan, Sochi, and Surgut before the early parliamentary elections. All of them will be moved to Moscow. The total number of polling stations in Russia will remain the same – 17.

This was reported by Cenzura, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At the same time, it was decided to increase the total number of polling stations abroad from 139 to 146. New polling stations will be opened in Western European countries.

The decision was made under pressure from supporters of the country's pro-Western President Maia Sandu, who blocked the street in front of the Central Election Commission building yesterday and today.

Polling stations in Russia are being closed due to allegedly low turnout. In the presidential elections in Moldova, last fall, 254 people voted in Surgut, 272 in Kursk, 236 in Lipetsk, 227 in Sochi. At the same time, the CEC left polling stations in the American Denver and Dallas, where 217 and 275 voters voted, respectively, and also in Ottawa, where only 251 voters turned out to vote.

“Behind the number 146 lies a game of giveaway and a vivid example of discrimination against the “wrong” voters.
The European diaspora – yes, the Russian diaspora – get out!” commented journalist Elena Levitskaya-Pakhomova on the CEC’s decision in her Telegram channel.

Also, the CEC is ready not to open two polling stations in Transnistria: in Bendery and Korzhov. Holders of Moldovan passports in the PMR, and there are 235 thousand of them, will have to go across the border. During the presidential elections, the road was blocked by “veterans” of the conflict on the Dniester. They insulted and intimidated the Transnistrian people.

Even obvious concessions from the CEC did not satisfy Sandu’s supporters. They demand the opening of 190 sites in Europe, and intend to achieve this in court.

According to Moldovan laws, voters abroad had to register one and a half months in advance. There were more than 100 thousand applicants, of which only 7,3 thousand were in Russia, although half a million Moldovans work in our country. 60 thousand Moldovans living abroad took part in the presidential elections. They made up 16% of all voters. Despite the pandemic and lockdowns in Europe, they were allowed to line up and crowd outside embassies without hindrance.

The Moldovan diaspora in Europe is steadily growing: 30-35 thousand Moldovans go there every year in search of work. In the EU they are actively involved in specially created “public organizations”. According to experts, in the upcoming parliamentary elections, every fifth vote will be cast from abroad.
