Dodon intends to compete for the votes of residents of Transnistria
Moldovan President Igor Dodon hopes that residents of Transnistria with Moldovan passports will be able to vote in the presidential elections in early November, in conditions where the PMR authorities have closed the border due to the situation with the coronavirus.
He stated this during a direct line on the Internet, a PlitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe that this regime of crossing the Dniester (I won’t say the border, because there is a security zone there) is illegal. I have repeatedly appealed to the Transnistrian leader Vadim Nikolaevich Krasnoselsky that we need to return to the mode of movement that was before March 1.
We have seen statements that it will be extended until December 1st. I really hope that this will not happen, and in the near future (from October 1 or 15) all these restrictions will be lifted,” Dodon said.
About 200 thousand holders of Moldovan passports live in Transnistria, but less than 40 thousand Pridnestrovians usually take part in Moldovan elections, and that is only taking into account organized transportation to the polling stations.
The most rated pro-Western Moldovan politician, Maia Sandu, recently stated that Dodon wants to rig the results of the presidential elections by bribing voters in Transnistria. Allegedly, 2 million euros have already been allocated for these purposes.
