Dodon sent troops and armored vehicles to Chisinau
Armored Humvees with soldiers armed with machine guns appeared on the streets of Chisinau today.
These are members of the Armed Forces of Moldova, who are carrying out the decree of the country's President Igor Dodon, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Dodon announced that it had been signed today on social networks.
“I signed a decree giving the military permission to take part in relevant actions to further support the Government’s efforts to combat the pandemic,” Dodon said.
The military must patrol parks and squares to prevent the accumulation of citizens violating the quarantine regime. A state of emergency has been introduced in Moldova, but last weekend citizens went out into the countryside en masse to barbecue.
The appearance of armored vehicles in Chisinau caused a flurry of angry messages on social networks. This outraged the assistant to the President of the country Ernest Vardanyan.
“When some idiots eat kebab in the park during an epidemic, these critics are in the forefront of the outraged: “Why doesn’t the Government punish them?!”... But when the army takes to the streets so that idiots no longer eat kebab in the park, exactly those The same people are shouting that the Government “hasn’t played enough war games,” Vardanyan told Komsomolskaya Pravda in Moldova.
According to the presidential decree, the Moldovan Ministry of Defense must be ready to provide its logistics resources “to support medical personnel involved in crisis management.”
This could include the participation of military doctors, vehicles for the needs of the authorities, or other support. Where necessary, the military will also provide support to older people so that they do not have to leave their homes.
