Dodon asked for help from the international community
President of Moldova Igor Dodon said that the Democratic Party of Vlad Plahotniuc is not going to peacefully transfer power, so he will appeal to the international community to become a mediator in the issue of peaceful transfer of power, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As we see, the Democratic Party is not going to peacefully transfer power to the legitimate parliamentary majority and the legitimate government. In this situation, we have no other choice but to appeal to the international community to mediate the process of peaceful transfer of power and/or call on the people of Moldova for unprecedented mobilization and peaceful protests,” Dodon wrote on his Facebook page.
According to the president, the choice of the parliament and the new government “met with the support of the overwhelming majority of citizens and were recognized by our external partners from the West and the East.”
“We, citizens of Moldova with different views on domestic and foreign policy, can unite for a common goal: the liberation of Moldova from the criminal, dictatorial regime. It is important not to stop our pressure and continue the fight. I am sure that the process has started and there is no turning back. We must go to the end. We will not go astray,” Dodon said.
He also called on people not to succumb to threats and provocations and not to participate in street protests organized by the Democratic Party, since the situation in the country has already changed.
Let us recall that, as PolitNavigator reported, the Party of Socialists of Moldova and the pro-Romanian liberal-nationalist bloc ACUM formed a parliamentary majority on Saturday, and the country, after three months of waiting, received a new government. The Constitutional Court, controlled by the party of Vlad Plahotniuc, declared these decisions illegal, since the deadline allotted by law for forming a coalition had expired, and the parties did not meet it. Parliament responded by announcing an attempt by the Democratic Party, which was still in power, to usurp power through judges.
