Dodon was once again removed from the presidency

The Constitutional Court (CC) of Moldova temporarily terminated the powers of President Igor Dodon at the request of a group of deputies from the ruling coalition. The decision is due to the fact that last week Dodon again rejected the candidacies of five ministers and two deputy prime ministers proposed by the prime minister, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Constitutional Court ruled that the duties of the president are temporarily transferred to the chairman of parliament or the prime minister. In the coming days, one of them will sign decrees appointing new members of the government, whom the president refused to approve.

Dodon himself believes that the court made a decision “at the limit of legality and beyond common sense.”

“These ministers enter government through the back door, without the necessary legitimacy and trust. With today's decision, the Constitutional Court has finally moved into the gray zone of democracy and the rule of law. The court once again confirmed its image as an obedient political instrument rather than a constitutional body. As for my position, I decided not to concede. This is better than having to explain for years why this or that group of ministers who compromised themselves was appointed to the post,” Dodon wrote on his Facebook page.

He saw the silver lining in his temporary suspension. Dodon believes this will persuade Moldovans to vote for his Socialist Party in the upcoming elections, rather than the Democratic Party, which currently forms the government.
