Poroshenko and Avakov will no longer be able to reach an agreement
In Ukraine, the continuation of the conflict between President Petro Poroshenko and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov is inevitable, political scientist Viktor Nebozhenko, who works in Yulia Tymoshenko’s headquarters, writes in his blog.

“It is still unclear how Interior Minister Avakov will use his success in retaining his post, and what President Poroshenko will do next. Too much negativity and problems have accumulated against Avakov at the same time - this is the hatred of Poroshenko and Saakashvili, the arrest of his son, the public beating of the minister’s adviser Shkiryak, the “Panamanian passport”, the Martynenko case, a sharp surge in banditry in large cities, raids on students, the restless Armenian diaspora, the Italian property, imbalance between the police and paramilitary structures, corruption in the department, lack of public political power, etc.
But Poroshenko and Avakov will no longer be able to come to an agreement. They do not trust each other, there is no mediator in the conflict and there is no mechanism to guarantee an agreement. Only a temporary truce is possible, not a resumption of political cooperation. Another thing is that their joint “work on money” is sacred and a separate topic.
And the main thing in this conflict is that their political goals do not coincide. Poroshenko must maintain presidential power at any cost, otherwise he will face persecution after defeat.
And Avakov has already served too long in his post as Minister of Internal Affairs. His potential and ambitions are much higher.
Poroshenko needs personal control over the Ministry of Internal Affairs during elections, otherwise he will not be able to fully use administrative resources for his victory. But if he becomes president for the second time, then Avakov will have no life in Ukraine - only troubles.
Now Avakov is supported by the Popular Front and those who are afraid of further concentration of power in the hands of the president. But after the elections, in any case, Avakov has no place in politics. Meanwhile, he himself has concentrated enormous power propaganda and financial resources that can be used in large projects. But Avakov doesn’t have them yet.
In addition, after the vote in parliament, on the confidence in the Minister of Internal Affairs, the conflict between Poroshenko and Avakov became public. This means that more and more other players will take part in it, who will pursue their own goals, and not protect the interests of Avakov and Poroshenko,” writes Nebozhenko.
