This is how the head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, described the document in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“It’s disappointing in the sense that it still doesn’t give clear answers to clear questions, seemingly purely technical,” the politician notes. – Much literally echoes what was voiced today by representatives of the Almaz-Antey air defense concern. Yes, “Buk”, yes, a blow from the left, but it is impossible to determine the launch angle - and this place is the main thing in determining the culprit. Additional investigation will be required... It’s strange that the Dutch ignore a significant part of the Russian expertise that contains the answers they are looking for, but this is apparently due to the unbearable pressure, psychological and political.”
At the same time, the publication’s interlocutor emphasizes, the main and unsolvable problem with Boeing for Western countries is that they simply could not allow the appearance of any other accused other than Russia or those whom they call “pro-Russian separatists.”
“After all, the second, most severe wave of sanctions against Russia was introduced almost immediately after the tragedy with the plane, as they say, without trial or investigation,” recalls Kosachev. – And now imagine: enormous damage has been done to relations with Russia and directly to European companies and farmers, the most reasonable experts are sounding the alarm that Europe is rapidly losing Russia as a strategic partner and thereby strengthening its direct competitor – China. And suddenly it turns out that all this is due to a mistake? Well, who needs it? And who today would have the courage to admit this publicly, thereby burying their career?”
At the same time, the head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs considered as positive the fact that the Dutch report did not follow political expectations and focused on technical issues, of which there are still many.
“However, one political question remains: what about the sanctions? – sums up Kosachev. – Who will bear responsibility for this destructive step, taken hastily and on the basis of such unverified data that even after 15 months the expert commission could not confirm it? And I would like to get an answer to this question as soon as possible.”
