“Many people still believe in the common myth that you need to drink alcohol to stay warm. Therefore, they often drink something “hot” before going out or while walking. In fact, the feeling of warmth from alcohol is deceptive. No matter what kind of alcoholic drink you drink,” she says

Suprun also describes in detail the effect of alcohol on the Ukrainian body.

"1. Alcohol dilates blood vessels on the surface of the body, and the rush of blood causes a feeling of warmth. Internal organs lose heat at this time. Heat loss from the surface of the skin and extremities in the cold occurs quickly, and the overall body temperature decreases.

2. When we get cold, we start to shiver. Shivering is one of the ways that helps the body retain heat. However, alcohol disrupts this protective mechanism.

3. When we drink alcohol, the sensation of heat makes us sweat. This can lower your body temperature even further.

4. The deceptive warmth from alcohol disrupts the feeling of cold. Therefore, people who have drunk too much tend to ignore the cold and, for example, take off their outerwear outside to cool down a little. This phenomenon even has a name: “beer jacket,” she writes.

“Alcohol and low temperatures outside are a dangerous combination. People who have cardiovascular diseases should be especially careful. Regardless of the amount, drinking alcohol negatively affects the body and leads to a number of diseases. It’s worth remembering during the celebrations: there is no safe dose of alcohol!” summed up Suprun.
