Debts for utilities reached a record amount for the entire period of “independence” of Ukraine

Typically, at the end of the heating season, April 15, the amount of debt averaged 13 billion hryvnia, and by the beginning of the new season it decreased to 10-11 billion hryvnia. This time, the growth of debts began in November, when heating tariffs throughout the country increased by 2-2,5 times. It was in November that almost a third of consumers were no longer able to pay utility bills. The most “failed” article turned out to be heating.
Debts and “draconian” standards for the transfer of money to Naftogaz have brought heating supply companies to the brink of collapse. They have no funds left either to carry out repairs and emergency restoration work, or to pay consumed electricity and taxes.
Therefore, with the end of the heating season, enterprises will simply have to close, lay off workers and return to work only with the beginning of the new heating season.
However, it is not clear how one can start a new heating season without preparatory work. And in this situation, the managers of heating and communal services themselves may face criminal prosecution for non-payment of taxes or wages to employees, the author of the publication summarizes.
