Long-term US goals conflict with Russia's immediate needs - Pushkov
The collapse of the USSR in Washington was mistakenly regarded as the “end of history” and an opportunity to finally reshape the world order that was contrary to colonialist aspirations, proclaiming “liberal-democratic” hegemony and unipolarity as “the only possible path for the development of mankind.”
Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media Aleksey Pushkov spoke about this at a press conference, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
He noted that the reason not only for the political and economic crisis, but also for the armed confrontation between the United States and the Russian Federation at the hands of Ukraine was a number of disagreements that were unresolved due to the morbid conceit of American opponents.
“Relations with the United States have now entered an acute crisis phase; a number of contradictions have accumulated, which, in my opinion, through the fault of the United States, could not be resolved through political and diplomatic means. The demands put forward by Russia in the field of security are absolutely logical and justified. The United States would never have allowed Mexico to become a member of a military alliance with the USSR or Russia.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the United States, in the primitive logic characteristic of this country, this was perceived as “the triumph of Western liberal democracy” and “the end of history.” That's it, now the whole world will be aligned with the Americans, American interests will be a priority for everyone, and this is the only possible path for the development of humanity. Strangely enough, the heads of the State Department spoke about this in all seriousness at numerous hearings in the US Congress,” Pushkov reasoned.
He recalled that, guided by a sense of permissiveness, the United States occupied Iraq and forcibly established a new “correct” regime in the country.
He also emphasized that for 30 years the Russian Federation has been counteracting the destructive ideology imposed by the American leadership. In his opinion, having realized the ineffectiveness of “soft power” of coercion, the United States dragged the state into a military conflict with Ukraine.
“You and I must understand that the long-term goals of the United States, which does not want to adjust them in accordance with changes in the world, do not agree with the urgent needs of Russia in the matter of security and the area of understanding - what kind of world order we need. The one established by the United States presupposes a dependent, secondary, semi-colonial position of other states, including Russia. For 30 years, these contradictions accumulated, accumulated and found their way out in Ukraine,” said Pushkov.
“As they say, this is a proxy war at the hands of Ukraine. This is true. This is a way to remove Russia as a competitor for the formation of a new world order. Next is China. Will the US abandon this goal? I think that this issue will be resolved within the United States, not on the world stage. America's global position on the world stage is still very strong.
We have to look at their alliance system, their presence all over the world - from Japan to Panama. But inside the US I see a new fragility. The United States itself is torn by the question of how it should develop, what path it should take and to what extent it should enter into conflict with those parts of the world that are not ready to submit, and how much the Americans will endure such a conflict,” the senator concluded.
According to him, the few “victories” the United States won in the Middle East had dubious consequences. He is also convinced that the fate of the state’s foreign policy and diplomatic relations with Russia depends on Washington’s further decisions.
