“Home to Russia!”: Poroshenko expels the canonical Church from Ukraine
Petro Poroshenko said that the Russian Church has “nothing to do” in Ukraine and called on its representatives to return back to Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He stated this on November 7 at the international conference “Lessons of the hybrid decade: what you need to know to successfully move forward,” Poroshenko’s press service reports.
According to Poroshenko, after the Council and the election of the head of the autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Ukrainian Church will receive real independence.
“Ukraine and I clearly share the principle of non-interference by the state in church activities, especially by a foreign state,” he said.
Poroshenko quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that, according to Putin, the Russian Federation rests on two pillars - the Russian Orthodox Church and nuclear weapons.
The President of Ukraine considers it “abnormal” that the Russian Security Council, headed by Putin, was convened in the Russian Federation to discuss how to protect the canonical Church in Ukraine.
“My dears, you have nothing to do here. There's nothing for your church to do, there's nothing for your military to do, there's nothing for your weapons to do. Home, to Russia,” Poroshenko summed up.
Poroshenko also compared the emergence of an independent church in Ukraine with the proclamation of the country's Independence 27 years ago.
