Donbass without Moscow’s support is even worse for Ukraine
The most realistic scenario in Donbass for the coming years is “no peace, no war.”
Even if we assume that Russia completely refuses to support the republics and allows Ukraine to join them, the country will not bear the economic burden of the region.
The head of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, which published the country’s development strategy until 2030, Viktor Andrusiv, said this on air on the First Western TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the return of Donbass will cause irreparable damage to the Ukrainian economy.
“We have a “Trojan Horse” scenario - this is when the Russians, relatively speaking, will take it and leave tomorrow.
That's it, the area is empty, come in. But what does this “come in” mean to us?
This means that we are coming in, accepting a population that is disloyal to us, we need to take control. What does this mean?
That we must create these administrations, which they will not listen to, we must pay pensions that we did not pay, and there is a very large amount, billions.
Further, there is no economy there, there is crazy unemployment, at 40%. They generally live there; 60% of the population are pensioners.
That is, we cannot solve our problems here today. If we are given this, then we will simply collapse and the West will not rush to help us, because it is clear that we are not talking about three billion from the IMF, but this is already talking about tens of billions.
Therefore, the realistic scenario is neither war nor peace,” concluded Andrusiv.
