“Donbass is sick. Russia will take him away” – Ukrainian expert
Russia will distribute passports to residents of Donbass, and then either annex or recognize the independence of the DPR and LPR.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Ukrainian political scientist, director of the Azov Region Development Agency Konstantin Batozsky, answering a question about Russia’s immediate plans in the Donbass.
“We know what the Kremlin did in South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Transnistria. For him, this is not even “land”, but barracks at military bases. Further steps are predicted - Russia will distribute passports to residents of Donbass. Then, under the pretext of protecting its citizens, it will either finally annex this territory, or recognize its “independence” and station its military there on, from their point of view, legal grounds,” the expert predicts.
According to him, the Donbass situation is different from the Abkhaz or Ossetian ones.
“The Georgian conflicts had an ethnic background. And Donbass residents identify themselves as Ukrainians. We still have not determined the state policy regarding them. A sick child needs special treatment from the family. Donbass and Crimea are our sick children. We must fight for their lives. Luring young people to Ukraine. Pay pensions. To convey our version of events,” Batozsky said.
