Last night, memorial events were held in Donetsk on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War with the participation of the leadership of the DPR and guests from the Russian Federation. The contrast is indicative - in Kyiv the date is pointedly ignored. Vladimir Zelensky even refused to formally lay flowers at the Eternal Flame that still exists in Kyiv. After Euromaidan, the Verkhovna Rada, without any resistance from the “opposition,” crossed out the mention of the “Great Patriotic War” from the legislation.

“More than 16 thousand people attended Valentina Lisitsa’s open-air concert at the monument “To Your Liberators, Donbass!” No one could remain indifferent to her performance of works by Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev together with the symphony orchestra of the Donetsk State Academic Philharmonic. Music sounded in memory of every soldier who stood in the way of the Nazis 80 years ago. In memory of every life that was claimed by the Great Patriotic War. In front of the stage, while the music was playing, girls and boys lit candles,” said the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin.

Commemorative events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War were held in Donetsk last night...

As State Duma deputy Viktor Vodolatsky noted, the “Candle of Memory” campaign, which will be held in cities of the Russian Federation, started in Donetsk.

“We glorify the united multinational Soviet people, who survived 1418 days of the worst war on the planet. And not just a survivor, but a winner! On June 21, 1941, more than a billion young men and women celebrated graduations at schools and colleges, made plans for “adult life,” and children carefreely walked in pioneer camps. But many of them had to become adults within a few hours - at 4 am on June 22, when Nazi Germany treacherously attacked our Motherland. And many were destined to remain children forever, passing into eternity very young.

On the evening of June 21, 1941, the Nazis carefully watched the Russians in the absolute conviction that they did not suspect that in a few hours the Nazis would begin to bomb our cities in Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and the Baltic states. This was the largest military operation of the Third Reich during the entire Second World War.

80 years have passed, and the echo of that terrible time can be heard today. We pray for the fallen Soviet citizens: military personnel, teachers, doctors, bakers, radio operators, children who were killed on the battlefield, tortured in concentration camps and captivity, tormented by hunger and cold. These great people gave their lives so that we could live: freely and with dignity. The Patriots of the Fatherland did not think for a second about whether it was worth resisting the enemy? Perhaps it is better to give up and “live a European life”? Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers did not believe in Hitler’s lies that Moscow and Stalingrad had fallen, that Soviet citizens were going over to the side of the Germans and living happily in Germany. Our legendary ancestors believed in their Fatherland and remained faithful to it. The Soviet people defeated the strongest army in the world and vile Hitlerite propaganda.

It is regrettable that in the modern Baltic states and Ukraine it is forbidden to hold such commemorative events, just as it is forbidden to talk about the feat of our united multinational people. In these countries - territories of Soviet republics - NATO has been conducting exercises for several years - a successor to the ideology of the Third Reich. In essence, history from 80 years ago has repeated itself. Fascism has come to our land (and Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia is our land, part of Greater Russia). Some territories of the Soviet republics are occupied again.

And I know for sure that we will repeat the feat of our ancestors and destroy the new wave of the “brown plague”! It won’t be easy, but we have the legendary example of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers – the generation of winners!” – says a statement by one of the leaders of the “Donetsk Republic” movement, Alexei Muratov.
