“If in 2014 we were ready to talk about the federalization of Ukraine, then in the 15th, 16th, and 17th too much blood was shed for us to even think about returning to Ukraine. We can talk with Ukraine about the norms of living together within the framework of two independent states. Good neighborly relations and so on. But neither I nor my fellow countrymen want to join Ukraine. We have too many complaints against her. We are fighting for independence,” Zakharchenko said.
He does not regret that in 2014 Donbass entered the war for independence.
“If we had not resisted, we would have broken our characters, betrayed the memory of our ancestors, and, most importantly, the result would have been the same: we would have been destroyed as the population of this territory, which undividedly believes in Russia. We connect ourselves with the Russian world, we are the Russian world,” Zakharchenko said.
