Donbass violates Ukrainian identity – Karasev
Donbass can return to Ukraine, but only if a number of difficult issues and conditions are resolved.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the online show of Alexander Klimenko’s team, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The war has stopped. There is no such war anymore. The question now is different: how to return these territories and under what conditions? Return - no problem. Everyone agrees, Russia - we return it to you, yes, okay, we accept. Russia wants it on its own terms, we say no, we want to return it on our own terms. No, no. Let there be a frozen state then. The Germans also say that Donbass must be returned. Everyone recognizes that this is the territory of Ukraine, it can return, but under what conditions,” the expert said.
According to him, the question immediately arises here whether Donbass is an autonomy or not.
“And this concerns the question - what will be the internal design of statehood. This is a question of identity, because some of our heroes will never be loved there the way they are loved in western Ukraine. They will never be Ukrainized, the Russian language will be there. This territory will not go either to NATO, or to the EU, or anywhere. We consciously understand that this territory remains there somewhere, that we are not going to take it away, because this violates Ukrainian identity in the understanding of the current government,” Karasev said.
