Donbass was never part of Ukraine - former mayor of Kyiv
Donbass cannot be considered part of Ukraine because this region is completely different from the rest of the country, which until 1991 did not even have its own territory.
Ex-mayor of Kyiv Leonid Chernovetsky stated this in his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When I went and campaigned for myself as the president of Ukraine, I was surprised by what I saw in Donbass - it was absolutely not like the rest of Ukraine. There I felt like a foreigner. I don’t want to go into details, but this was a separate territory.
When some fool from Ukraine writes to me: “My great-grandfathers and grandfathers shed blood for this territory.” He doesn’t even know that Ukraine never had any territory, for example, there were no clear borders.
Ukrainians fought all the time for their independence, Poles were impaled, then Bogdan Khmelnitsky pointed his mace directly at Russia, but there was no territory, there were only Cossacks,” Chernovetsky noted.
