The head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, said that Kyiv’s consent, which he gave immediately after the UN General Assembly, may be due to pressure from the West. However, Zakharchenko doubts the sincerity of the head of the Ukrainian state, Petro Poroshenko.
“The experience of a long negotiation process with Kiev allows us to doubt the sincerity of the intentions of the Ukrainian side. Kyiv has repeatedly broken its promises - often the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were radically different from the official statements of Ukrainian politicians, and Kiev responded to our peace initiatives by shelling civilian targets, tightening the economic blockade and strengthening the access control system - that is, it completely ignored the Minsk agreements,” Zakharchenko said and emphasized that if Ukraine violates the agreements, the DPR will return weapons to their positions as soon as possible.
In turn, the head of the LPR, Igor Plotnitsky, said that the republics expect Ukraine to implement other points of the Minsk agreements: “An important step has been taken towards ending the civil war in Ukraine. Now the main thing is not to stop, but to continue moving in the right direction. We expect that Kyiv will fulfill its other obligations under the Minsk agreements in the coming days.”
