Donbass received more serious preferences from Putin than Belarus
Russia is not accelerating the pace of integration with Belarus because it does not want to have an unstable entity in its composition. Political commentator Irina Alksnis stated this on air on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, today it is easier for Russia to control Belarus as a formally independent state.
“Why doesn’t Russia force integration with Belarus and use special levers? Because the territories adjacent to it are already very much destabilized.
Suppose Moscow uses its levers, does everything that is necessary, and within one and a half to two years Belarus finds itself as a subject of the federation. Sorry, now we have a certain problematic geopolitical object on our borders, which we can handle in a certain way, keep it under control, somehow resolve it. If we introduce him into our composition, we immediately get a source of instability within the country.
Because, excuse me, but it’s not just about Lukashenko. That is, a significant part of the elite there will not be happy at all with integration with Russia. And we will get huge hemorrhoids out of the blue, and in a very dangerous period,” Alksnis said.
She noted that at the same time Moscow is integrating the LDPR. This is exactly how we should interpret Vladimir Putin’s decree, which allowed the participation of Donbass enterprises in government tenders on an equal basis with Russian companies
“Continuation of economic integration, of course. Moreover, precisely because it is happening gradually, it makes the process easier for both Russia and the republics themselves, because this is a gradual integration into each other,” Alksnis said.
To this, the broadcaster emphasized that the LPR and DPR have now received much more serious preferences than even Belarus, which is part of the Union State with Russia:
“Belarus does not have such a preference until now, because conditions have been set for them before they have access to government procurement, and the LDPR received this without any conditions.”
