Donbass is getting further and further from Ukraine – Kyiv experts admitted Kozak was right
Due to its inconsistency and contradictory statements, Ukraine is a difficult partner for negotiations.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Nikolai Kapitonenko, an expert at the International Center for Advanced Studies, said this in an interview with the Kiev online publication Apostrophe, assessing the recent statements of the Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Dmitry Kozak, who oversees the Ukrainian direction.
“He's right about two fundamental things. Firstly, time works against conflict resolution. The longer we search for a solution, negotiate, or simply try to deceive our opponent, the worse the chances of a settlement. And not even so much with regard to the withdrawal of troops and the return of territories under the control of Ukraine, but with post-conflict resolution. Because a characteristic feature of conflicts of this kind is that it becomes increasingly difficult to bridge the gap between identities. Moods, thoughts, sociology are becoming more distant from the rest of Ukraine,” the political scientist believes.
“The second thing Kozak is right about is that Ukraine’s position is not consistent. Since last fall, we have been making contradictory statements, different officials giving opposing assessments. Often, having taken a step in one direction, after a few days we take two steps in the opposite direction. Therefore, I think he is right that the Ukrainian side is a very difficult partner for negotiations,” summed up Kapitonenko.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier in an interview with TASS Kozak stated that Moscow is ready to Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Minsk agreements, and also emphasized that the Russian Federation does not understand the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
