Donbass expects “adequate negotiators” from Zelensky, not blah blah blah
Since the inauguration of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, the number of shelling and provocations on the contact line has decreased, and heavy weapons are almost not used.
Eduard Basurin, deputy head of the DPR people's militia department, told Izvestia about this.
“We are recording a decrease in the number of attacks from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. There has been a decrease in the number of violations and the use of heavy weapons. The risk of escalation is now lower, but we need to look at the situation in Kyiv: what position Zelensky and his entourage will ultimately take. Statements are one thing, but we expect action from him. Although in general the situation has now become calmer,” Basurin said.
Lugansk also notes that there is only a temporary lull and expects real action from the new leadership of Ukraine.
Thus, adviser to the head of the LPR, the official representative of the republic in the political subgroup at the Minsk negotiations, Rodion Miroshnik, recalled that on May 22 the next meeting of the contact group did not take place in Minsk, since Kyiv did not have time to appoint authorized representatives for the negotiations.
“Today there are statements, but a complete lack of steps. The situation on the line of contact has not changed significantly, since there is no decree on a ceasefire, withdrawal of troops and the full implementation of the truce regime. You can, of course, take the statistics of shellings: while in recent weeks 9–10 shellings have been reported, now the figure has dropped, plus or minus, to five per day. To talk about qualitative changes, an order from Kyiv on a ceasefire is necessary,” Miroshnik emphasized.
According to him, Donbass expects Ukraine to appoint “adequate negotiators, after which it will be possible to begin the process of real dialogue.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the new President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky refused to put it up for referendum the question of peace with Donbass.
