The “Donbass consensus”, unlike the Crimean one, is demanding and alarming
The United Russia party won the last regional elections thanks to the “Donbass consensus” that had developed in society.
Political scientist Dmitry Orlov stated this at a round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is quite obvious that the patriotic majority or the Donbass consensus has become the substantive, technological, political basis of these elections. The results of the elections of a number of acting governors, legislative assemblies and municipal councils are a consequence of the general patriotic upsurge. If it had not been there, the results in the “fire” regions would have been less favorable. “United Russia’s positions have strengthened even in the protest voting regions: Udmurtia, Sakhalin, Sverdlovsk region and a number of regional capitals,” Orlov said.
At the same time, he noted significant differences between the “Donbass consensus” and the previously existing Crimean one.
“It is quite obvious that the Donbass consensus is a structure of support for the authorities. This new majority has two challenging characteristics. It is demanding and wants managers to respond to their requests over a period of several months. And it is more alarming; his sense of what is happening can change quickly. This factor arose due to understandable circumstances, and the development of the SVO will influence the nature of this consensus,” Orlov warned.
