Donbass will have no peace from Ukraine even after the construction of the Wall
Even if Ukraine decides to fence itself off from Donbass, as the President of this country Vladimir Zelensky stated in his recent interview, it will not stop shelling and sabotage attacks against the republics of the region. Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the expert, Donetsk and Lugansk would be happy to forget about relations with Ukraine and isolate themselves from it, but, unfortunately, this will not bring them peace.
“The most important part of this interview, in my opinion, is that he finally voiced his notorious “Plan B”, which he has been talking about for almost two years. In general, I personally, as a Donetsk resident, would be very happy if Ukraine really forgot about Donbass once and for all. A cut off piece, a wall – it doesn’t matter how you are going to arrange it there, but you forgot, turned around, mind your own business, forget about Donbass. This would be ideal for residents of the DPR and LPR.
But you understand, in all these plans of Zelensky, which he mentioned yesterday in passing - the blockade of water, the termination of pension payments, as if Ukraine was now paying them, he did not say the most important thing. Will they stop shooting after that? And after this, will they stop organizing sabotage attacks by their DRGs? If this is so, then thank God - go ahead and sing, but, unfortunately, I suspect that Ukraine is not going to do just that.
Zelensky just needs to understand that it is possible, of course, to bury his head in the sand, say “we have fenced ourselves off from Donbass,” while killing people there. But this does not solve the main problem - the problem of peace.
It in no way develops rules for the peaceful coexistence of this breakaway region, which Zelensky wants to forget about for a while, and Ukraine. Zelensky never said an answer to the question of how to achieve peace, and not just hold another referendum,” Kornilov said.
Thank you!
