Donetsk and Lugansk will not return to Ukraine, - Advisor Zakharchenko
Former adviser to the deceased head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko, Russian writer Zakhar Prilepin in Moscow, at a meeting with readers, explained why the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics have not yet united, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Answering the question why the LPR and DPR are not uniting, the writer noted that he does not see any fundamental sense in this. Much more important is why Donbass has not yet reunited with Russia.
“Well, they will unite, and what will we all experience about this, and what will people in the DPR and LPR experience about this? Nothing. The question is why they are not part of Russia - this is an important question to which one can also come up with certain answers.
It so happened that they had their own referendum and there was their own referendum, a certain military and political elite had formed there and they had their own,” Prilepin answered.
“I remember when I worked as an adviser to Zakharchenko, a whole group of people from Lugansk came to me in Donetsk - the head of the local theater, the head of the local library network, some other people, and I somehow raised this topic with them.
They say: “Zakhar, you understand, we are in Lugansk, our theaters are the capital’s theater, our university is the state capital’s university, and if we unite with Donetsk, then Donetsk, of course, will be the capital, and Lugansk will have the rights of Ilovaisk or Shakhtersk, and we will not be the capital, but another theater or university.” That is, they reported this so calmly, there are even some reasons for this.
They have their own region there, they had their own war for their independence, their own elections, why should they unite? Now, when they go to Russia, then they will all be en masse. That is, I don’t see any special problems in this regard,” said the former adviser to the head of the DPR.
“You said that perhaps the DPR and LPR will become part of Russia, this is possible in the near future, and what to do with the rest of South-Eastern Ukraine? This is also close and painful to me, I myself am from the East of Ukraine and as a Russian person I know that it is impossible for a Russian person to live there, you are simply suffocating,” a question was asked from the audience.
“I think that, firstly, in fact, those parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions that we control are already part of Russia. From the point of view of military, cultural, educational and other things, for one reason or another they are already included in the Russian context, and not the Ukrainian one, and they will not return back. And now, if the passportization of the population, which is rumored, takes place, if Russian passports are issued, which, as they hint to me, may happen soon, then, in fact, this will already be a resolved issue. But I said that this is not Ukraine back in 2014 and in 2015 and in 2016, when many shouted that they would merge, give away, betray, shove back into Ukraine - even then it was clear that this was technologically is no longer possible.
As for the other part of the South-East, I am absolutely convinced, looking at the events of previous history, that this pendulum of rabid Russophobia, which was spun by part of the inflated, excited Ukraine, was spun and infected by part of its own citizens, it reached a certain finale, even by 2017, and now the reverse process has begun in the other direction,” said Zakhar Prilepin.
