Donetsk wants to launch direct trains to Crimea, Moscow and St. Petersburg
On the part of the Donbass republics, everything will be done to restore railway transportation and direct communication with the Russian Federation.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stated this during a meeting with journalists at the Moscow club “Good Russian People,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Answering a question about railway communication between the republics of Donbass and the Russian Federation, Pushilin noted that freight transportation has already been established, now it’s a matter of organizing passenger routes.
“We talked about passenger transportation, for convenience, for our citizens. Ukraine is also watching this very closely. It is from the Donetsk railway station that we do not have the opportunity to launch, it was not discussed earlier. Because Ukrainian armed forces are literally a hundred meters away, that is, no one will risk people like that.
We then discussed movement with Yasinovataya. But for us, the Crimean direction and the Moscow, St. Petersburg direction were important then; these directions still remain priorities, but the delay occurred then due to the pandemic. Because everything was going well, and the tasks were already set for our railway, that is, contacts were established and so on with the Russian side, but it slowed down, delays occurred in the regions of the Russian Federation, and in our country this, of course, increased exponentially,” said the head of the republic.
Negotiations are ongoing, he said.
“Now this issue continues to be discussed, it is in demand, and people write to the administration on a regular basis, because this would relieve the burden on our crossing points from the Russian Federation, and, of course, it is simply convenient, non-stop travel. I continue to insist on this, and we will achieve this, I will try to do it faster on my part, but not everything depends only on the DPR and LPR,” added Pushilin.
