“Why did the attempt to establish control over the border fail? Because we were counting on the forces that were on the territory of Ukraine at that time. We fundamentally successfully developed the offensive, but when we approached Donetsk and Lugansk, we tried to resolve the issue in the most humane and bloodless way, and war does not forgive this. As a result, Russia introduced heavy weapons, they surrounded our troops. In Ilovaisk, for example, the ratio of forces was 4 to 1,” says the general.
Igor Romanenko also believes that Ukraine is not ready to introduce martial law.
“Supporters of introducing martial law do not understand that in this case, our military leadership will be faced with a mass of administrative tasks that will exhaust our reserves and prevent us from dealing with more important issues. First of all, we need to ask the question: what will this give us and are we ready for this step?” says Romanenko.
