Donetsk has been turned into a fortress: There will be no victory parade on August 24

There are literally a few days left until August 24th. The date is in a sense sacred for both Kyiv and Donbass. The Kyiv authorities almost solemnly promised that by this time Donetsk would not only be taken under control, but also cleared. The militia firmly demonstrates its readiness to prevent any festive parades either on August 24 or in the following months. To be honest, the optimism of the Kyiv military is incomprehensible. Donetsk is fortified so seriously that even the most pessimistic supporters of the republic understand that today it is a real fortress.

Yes, the city is being shelled very harshly by artillery; attacks are being made on almost all areas, including the central ones. There are serious power and water supply shortages in Donetsk. A huge problem is the supply of food, medicine, drinking water, cleaning filters, baby formula, hygiene products - all of this is already experiencing a serious shortage, and in some areas - a real disaster. We won’t say anything about the presence of delicacies or exotic fruits; many here have already forgotten what it all looks like.

But the Kiev military leadership did not take one thing into account. Militia soldiers do not need Foie Gras or Hennesy; they only need one bowl of porridge a day and a few sips of water. What they really need is ammunition, shells, guns, heavy armored vehicles, communications equipment and fuels and lubricants. And all this is available in sufficient quantities in the arsenal of the republican army. But, in addition to weapons, the militia has a very serious, even invaluable ally. Its name is experience. It is combat experience that allows fighters to feel confident that the Ukrainian army is simply not able to defeat them.

The militia learned to simply control artillery pieces in a delicate manner, from mortars to howitzer artillery. Among them there are no longer just tankers, but real aces. Well, the main thing is the infantry. Several months of heavy and bloody fighting taught yesterday's miners and workers to act both in small sabotage groups and large military formations.

In private conversations, militias express bewilderment at the Kyiv generals’ plans to storm Donetsk: “We don’t understand at all why they need this. We have so many surprises prepared for them here, so many preparations. They apparently have no idea what they're getting themselves into. They may be able to enter the city, but how are they going to get out of here? Who will let them leave?
Well, they’ll lay down all their infantry like that, and we’ll simply burn all the armor. It’s they who are now using artillery to completely hammer away at residential areas, and when we collide head-on, the guns won’t help them. Well, we’ll talk to them here,” says one of the fighters.
In a sense, the Ukrainian army itself made the defensive task of the militias easier. The systematic destruction of the outskirts of Donetsk by powerful artillery led to the creation of many kilometers of destroyed buildings in which no people live and which are disconnected from utility networks, which is very important due to fire safety. Accordingly, these buildings, and in some areas even blocks, can easily be turned into impregnable fortresses. You can also plant land mines, mine objects, and place snipers unnoticed, and a huge number of “pleasant surprises” can be prepared, or have already been prepared.

There are many scenarios for storming a city, now this is one of the most discussed topics, but even to an absolute amateur in military affairs it becomes obvious that in the current conditions the storming side will lose several thousand of its soldiers, and almost all armored vehicles, and in a very short period of time.

The losses among the civilian population will be so terrible that, to be honest, it’s scary to discuss it. There is, of course, another scenario that the participants in these events on both sides are actually waiting for: negotiations. But that’s the trouble: Kyiv doesn’t need negotiations, they need a parade.

It is unknown what plans the Kiev leadership is making, but we can say with confidence that Donetsk is ready for the assault, and continues to prepare. And, as the militia themselves say, they are not going to give up.
