This decree introduces a temporary ban on photography, video filming and audio recording in combat zones, in areas placed under martial law and in territories in close proximity to military installations.
“This order is in line with international practice. It is designed to ensure, firstly, the safety of journalists. And, secondly, what is certainly important in war conditions is the safety of militia fighters and military facilities of the Donetsk People’s Republic,” said Igor Ivanov.
Representatives of the political department of the people's militia headquarters emphasized that accreditations for journalists to work on the territory of the DPR, issued by the press service of the Ministry of Information, remain valid in all areas not classified as combat zones.
“At the moment, for example, there are no military operations taking place on the territory of Donetsk and in the area where the Malaysian Boeing crashed. The work of correspondents in these places is allowed, unless we are talking about military installations. However, the combat situation is constantly changing. Decisions on temporary restrictions on the activities of journalists in a particular area will be promptly made by the headquarters and commanders of militia units,” the head of the political department emphasized.
However, as representatives of the DPR Ministry of Defense assured, everything will be done to ensure that correspondents have the opportunity to fully cover events in the republic.
The political department of the people's militia is completing the creation of an information center that will oversee interaction with journalists, including issuing permits to work in the combat zone. The DPR military is concerned about the safety of journalists in the combat zone. “The hotline numbers, through which journalists can find out the details of the procedure for obtaining permission, will be available on Monday,” the head of the information center, Vitaly Gerasimenko, told reporters.
