Donetsk musicians told how Dozhd made “Ukrainian patriots” out of them
Despite the fact that more than a week has passed since the release of the scandalous report of the Dozhd channel about “pro-Ukrainian Donetsk,” the Contraband Group on its YouTube channel decided to publish an official video refutation in which it told the truth, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Let us remind you that on December 28, Lilya Yapparova, an unaccredited journalist from the TV channel Dozhd in the DPR, used footage of a concert in a Donetsk club, distorting the information, and concocted a pro-Ukrainian propaganda video.
Thus, Valeria Kostova, the head of this creative association, said that a journalist from the Dozhd TV channel attended the group’s concert in Donetsk, filming a provocative report about the group’s activities, which gave rise to accusing the artists of Ukrainian propaganda.
“We did not invite the Dozhd TV channel to our concert. Moreover, the musicians did not know who they were interviewing (screenshots of correspondence confirming this are also presented in the video. – author’s note). The journalist herself called her report “about the life of young people in Donetsk.”
Valeria Kostova said that because of this report, the group now has big problems with the law enforcement agencies of the Republic, but now this is not a problem of primary importance for them.
“Now we are fighting for the truth,” the girl emphasized.
Let us note that after the release of the report, the producer of the Dozhd TV channel approached the group with a question about what exactly in their material did not suit the artists.
“Phrases taken out of context formed the general concept of the report,” notes Kostova. “The journalist needed to show us as dissatisfied Ukrainian patriots.”
To confirm her words, she cited as an example the most striking moments from the material of TK Dozhd and its full version.
“We will not consider all comments. And it was clear that the phrases were trimmed specifically to fit the context of the report. It’s more logical for the musician to explain his words himself,” says Kostova about the statement of one of the musicians that he will not show many of the songs that he writes in Ukrainian to anyone.
“I was born in Ukraine and there is nothing more to talk about here. This is a personal matter, some may be outraged, others will like it. My materials are not in demand and are not ready for publication,” he says.
An even more incomprehensible step of journalist Liliya Yapparova was to look for supposedly hidden meaning in the lyrics of the songs of the Boombox group, which always sang about love.
Thus, according to TC “Dozh”, in one of the group’s songs, which was covered by the Donetsk group, “everything that Donetsk youth has to face is listed, as evidenced by the video fragment.
“I also gave an interview to a Dozhd journalist at Biker’s Bar. All questions were aimed at taking the conversation into a political direction. But it didn't work out. Therefore, I think, not a second of my interview was broadcast,” Kostova confidently states.
“Waiting for the journalist at the place chosen for the interview, I went into the shooting range to shoot at the cans. When Yapparova arrived, she started filming me without permission. I asked not to do this and not to insert footage from the shooting range into the report. As you can see, the request was ignored.
There is no politics in our music. If the author put a deep ideological meaning into the song, then the one who performs it later repeats only the form of performance, but not the ideas,” Valeria emphasized.
The musicians themselves unanimously declare that music and politics are incompatible things.
