Dorenko: The Kremlin is merging the South-East, Donbass was just a maneuver distracting from Crimea

“The South-East is merged. There will be no action from Russia... It's time to tell yourself the truth. Firstly, because the South-East is not Crimea. Crimea is the key to the Black Sea, Crimea locks the hypothetical NATO base in Odessa, Crimea locks Azov, Crimea unlocks Novorossiysk... Crimea and the South-East are very different in terms of geopolitical benefits.
Secondly, because the Southeast never supported the militias en masse. The population is dark. Consciousness is farmhouse. The population of the South-East has practically no desire to make history. It doesn’t matter whether this happened in Crimea. But this is important in Donbass. No this!
Thirdly, because for us to enter the South-East means rebuilding the entire life of Russia, building a mobilization economy and society, fighting and being ready to fight with the whole world in conditions of hostility from the whole world. And this is possible, almost certainly, for almost decades. Putin doesn't want this. Putin considers comfort one of the achievements of his reign. And many agree with him, I think. The Russian world itself is beautiful, but the pampered capital wants to go on vacation to Italy. Muscovites do not want to dress in tunics for the sake of the South-East of Ukraine.
Fourthly, I myself am scared by this thought, but I see that all this time the South-East was just a smoke screen for Crimea. It’s cruel, but it made it possible to hold the West by the balls...” said Dorenko.
However, he believes that the Kremlin’s scenario with Donbass may not work - Ukraine will suppress the supporters of Novorossiya, and the United States will still impose sanctions against Russia.
“And if Obama completely freezes over Crimea, will we be able to raise the South-East a second time in response? What leverage do we have left after the Ukrainians suppress the Southeast? Or will they fuck us after Donbass?” – noted Sergei Dorenko.
