Expensive gas is killing all business in Ukraine along the chain – Zemlyansky
With the current rise in gas prices, there will be no small or medium-sized businesses left in Ukraine.
This was discussed at the press conference “Heating season: how will the record increase in gas prices in the EU affect Ukrainians?” said energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a speculative component in the European gas market. It’s interesting to watch the price rally, but let’s see what it led to, both in European countries and in Ukraine. Everything affected the European economy.
The price of gas has increased, and so has the cost of production. The chemists were the first to react. This pulled down electricity prices and coal prices. There was a shortage of coal and prices rose. Such prices have not been remembered for 18 years,” he noted.
The price jump had a negative impact on both the energy sector of Ukraine in particular and the entire economy as a whole.
“This directly impacts us and is reflected, among other things, in gas price positions. This affected the chemical industry, next in line is the construction materials industry, and all other enterprises that use gas.
It’s even more interesting with farmers, especially with greenhouse farms. They already have an offer from NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine. All non-domestic consumers have already received an offer from Naftogaz, 44-46 thousand UAH per thousand cubic meters of gas, please. With gas prices like this, this is the destruction of any business. Medium and small, within Ukraine,” Zemlyansky emphasized.
