With such a warning at the round table held in Kyiv “One hundred days until winter. Fuel and energy complex. Threats and opposition” was delivered by Mikhail Volynets, head of the “Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine”.
“Coal reserves in warehouses today amount to only 1,37 million tons, at a time when it is now necessary to have a minimum of 2,5 million tons,” Volynets noted. – Due to the coal shortage, a number of thermal power plants have already been shut down. Everything is heading towards a complete stop of the economy. If the government does not take action, the entire country may be left without electricity, as a result of which industry and the metro will stop. The entire energy system may stop, and then it will only be possible to start it from Russia.”
Deputy Prime Minister Valery Voshchevsky, who was present at the round table, confirmed that most of what Mikhail Volynets said was true, but nevertheless decided to smooth out the situation somewhat.
“Let’s prepare for winter, since I have no right to think otherwise,” Voshchevsky reassured those gathered.
