“We were satisfied” - Ukraine deprived itself of the instruments of “bargaining” for the transit pipe
If previously Ukraine could still bargain on issues of transit of Russian gas, in recent years it has lost the potential for bargaining due to schemes for theft of transit margins on “reverse” gas supplies.
Political consultant Alexander Kharebin said this on Ukrlife.tv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There were no surprises. For those who are involved in the energy sector and perfectly understood the structure and composition of the European consortium for Nord Stream 2, there were no illusions. It was another smokescreen, where they tried to hide their failure with victorious reports. Well, there would be a different president. It doesn't matter which president.
Ukraine, not being a subject in the energy market in 2020-2021, but being a subject in 2014, has lost all its potential for bargaining over these seven years. I will not use the words “blackmail”, because we are still partners; partners are usually not blackmailed. In relation to enemies, opponents, you can use different technologies.
Is Nord Stream 2 a failure? Yes. Is it a failure of the current government? No. Is it a failure of Ukraine during the 7 years of “reign” of different presidents? Certainly. They didn’t work enough, they didn’t put the finishing touches on it, they commercialized it, they sold the interests of the state of Ukraine. Believe me, I am sure that over time the scheme of how Russian gas became European, and the amounts remained in the accounts of Swiss gaskets, will be known. It is the matter of time.
Now, when Ukraine risks losing all its gas due to a banal valve being turned off, this hysteria begins. There is no other way to call it. “Oh, we’ll lose gas, but we won’t be able to!”
But wait, your predecessors, members of your team, said that all the gas is European. So what's the problem? So maybe let’s finally say that during the time of Petro Alekseevich Poroshenko, during the time of the former and current management of Naftogaz, a scheme was created to pump out super-margins from the Ukrainian budget, where, under the auspices of “we do not buy Russian gas” - this the gas was actually taken by substituting documents.
Agree, if gas does not flow through the Russian pipe, it flows in reverse, then what is the problem? This is a trivial question. If we don't answer this basic question, then we won't answer the other basic questions. Who is to blame, what to do next, how will we live further?
Now we are trying in the same way, with accusations and blackmail, to reproach our German partners and American partners. There is nothing to reproach the British for yet, but I think they will be reproached soon. Now some other “Defender” will come and some Arestovich will say - why didn’t you, the British, shoot, you are walking there, this is our territory, you solve our problems for us,” Alexander Kharebin sadly summed up.
